ANNOUNCING THE CANADA CYBERSTEAM CHALLENGE!

Marijn Companjne

The Canada CyberSTEAM Challenge (C3) is a fully virtual, interdisciplinary competition for students in grades 6-9 across Canada. For each challenge students are given a challenge that combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Students who elect to enter C3 are allotted 48 hours to complete the challenge on their own or with a partner. There are prizes for the best entries, and all of the entries will be shared with other students across the country through our submission gallery.

The current pandemic has made it difficult for students to connect through music; we hope that this challenge will give students an opportunity to be engaged and share music with other students across the country. This portion of C3 will combine creative music-making with physics, technology, and engineering. The event itself takes place on November 14-15, 2020. Participants will also receive introductory training on the digital audio workstation BandLab, a free but powerful platform that many Canadian music programs are utilizing at the moment. This challenge is designed to be accessible to students of all musical and technical abilities— please share this information widely within your school. The only real prerequisites are enthusiasm and access to a computer with a camera, microphone, and video editing software. A tutorial video will be released on Monday, November 9 to explain the necessary background information and materials.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to see submissions from Newfoundland and Labrador students!
